Base of the skull

The skull base is a complex anatomical region that forms the floor of the skull and houses a variety of vital structures, including the brain, major blood vessels, nerves, and the inner ear. Injuries or diseases of the skull base can have serious consequences, as they can affect potentially vital structures.

Skull injuries can be caused by trauma, infections, tumors, or congenital anomalies. Symptoms may include dizziness, headaches, hearing loss, balance problems, visual disturbances, or neurological deficits, depending on the affected regions.

The diagnosis of skull base injuries and tumors requires a detailed medical history, functional testing, imaging techniques such as CT and MRI scans and angiography, as well as a thorough neurological examination. Treatment depends on the cause and can range from conservative measures to surgical interventions.
